Julie Ellen "Tawny" Kitaen (August 5, 1961 – May 7, 2021) was an American extra, model, and media personality. She began her career as a television extra, appearing in the goggle box films Malibu (1983) and California Girls (1985). She too starred in the comedies The Perils of Gwendoline in the Land of the Yik-Yak and Bachelor Party (both 1984), and the horror film Witchboard (1986).
Kitaen garnered widespread recognition for her appearances in a number of heavy metal music videos, including Ratt's "Back for More" (1984) and Whitesnake's "Even so of the Night", "Is This Love" and "Here I Get Over again" (all 1987).
In the 2000s, Kitaen transitioned into appearing on reality television serial, including The Surreal Life (2006) and Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew (2008), the latter of which documented Kitaen's bug with substance abuse.
Early on life [edit]
She was born Julie Kitaen in San Diego, California in 1961, the eldest of three children built-in to Linda Kitaen (née Taylor), a housewife and onetime dazzler pageant participant, and Terry Kitaen, an employee of a neon sign visitor.[1] [2] Kitaen'south mother was of Scottish and Irish descent, while her begetter was of Russian-Jewish heritage.[3]
Kitaen was raised in the Jewish religion.[4] [5] She began using the nickname "Tawny" at the historic period of 12 on her own initiative.[6] As a child, she struggled with dyslexia, which led to her to drop out of Mission Bay High School.[7] At the age of 14, with backstage passes later on a Peter Frampton concert at Balboa Stadium,[8] she witnessed the VIP treatment afforded Frampton's girlfriend Penny and aspired to achieve it for herself.[nine]

Kitaen appeared on the cover of Ratt's debut EP Ratt (1983) and the ring's debut Atlantic studio album Out of the Cellar (1984). She was dating the ring's guitarist Robbin Crosby at the time.[eleven]
Acting career [edit]
Kitaen began her acting career in 1983 with a minor part in the television picture show Malibu. In 1984, she starred as the title grapheme of the erotic hazard movie The Perils of Gwendoline in the Land of the Yik-Yak, as well called Gwendoline. [12] Her other picture appearances include Bachelor Party (1984) equally the bride-to-be of Tom Hanks' character,[thirteen] and starring roles in the minor box office hit Witchboard (1986),[14] White Hot, and Dead Tides. She appeared in several music videos in the 1980s for the band Whitesnake, including the hits "Here I Go Once more", "Notwithstanding of the Night", "Is This Dearest", and "The Deeper the Love". She also appeared in Ratt's "Dorsum for More" music video.[15]
From February to July 1989, she appeared every bit Lisa DiNapoli on the daytime serial Santa Barbara.[16] [17] She appeared on Seinfeld as Jerry'southward girlfriend in the 1991 episode "The Nose Chore." She appeared in 19 episodes of the TV series The New WKRP in Cincinnati from 1991 to 1993 equally nighttime DJ Mona Loveland, who has a prove called Mona Til Midnight. Kitaen dated Ratt guitarist Robbin Crosby during and later on loftier schoolhouse. They moved in together as teenagers when Crosby was in the band Phenomenon.[20]
Kitaen had a year-long matter with O. J. Simpson while he was married to Nicole Brown Simpson. The matter was revealed at Simpson'due south 1997 ceremonious trial for wrongful death.[21] [22]
She married Whitesnake singer David Coverdale in 1989; they divorced in 1991.[23]
Kitaen was married to baseball player Chuck Finley from 1997 to 2002, with whom she had two daughters, Wynter and Raine.[24] In 2002 she was charged with domestic violence for an incident involving Finley,[25] [26] and 3 days later, Finley filed for divorce.[26] In a plea bargain, she agreed to enter a spousal bombardment counseling programme and avoid contact with Finley.[26]
In November 2006, prosecutors charged Kitaen with possessing fifteen grams of cocaine in her San Juan Capistrano home in Orangish County. The authorities said her two children were dwelling house at the time and that she had granted deputies permission for the search.[27] In December 2006, Kitaen entered a half dozen-month rehabilitation program in exchange for the dismissal of a felony drug-possession charge.[28] [29]
On September 26, 2009, Kitaen was arrested for driving under the influence in Newport Beach, California.[30] The post-obit July, she pleaded no competition to misdemeanor DUI and was sentenced to ii days in jail, ordered to attend a first-offender alcohol program and required to perform 64 hours of community service.[31]
On July 22, 2019, Kitaen was once more arrested for DUI in Newport Beach.[32] [33] She was formally charged with a misdemeanor related to the arrest on October 22 of that yr.[32] Kitaen pleaded non guilty and was scheduled for a pretrial hearing on May 18, 2021.[32] However, she died before the hearing could have identify.[32] If bedevilled, Kitaen could have been incarcerated.[32]

Kitaen died at her Newport Beach home on May 7, 2021, at the age of 59. In Oct 2021, the Orange County coroner'due south office announced Kitaen's official cause of death was dilated cardiomyopathy, a common type of heart disease. Other contributing factors to her death included balmy coronary atherosclerosis and ingestion of mirtazapine, alprazolam, acetaminophen, pregabalin, and hydrocodone.[37]
